Things to Do on a Warm Sunny Day While Waiting for the Mulch Truck in Raleigh, North Carolina

Filed under: Uncategorized — gardeningasylum @ 9:00 pm

Think how much you love hellebore ‘Hot Flash.’ It doesn’t even matter that it’s not blooming.
Mottled, saw-toothed foliage with bright red stems – what more could you ask for?

Observe how nicely this geranium ‘can’tfindthetagya’ holds last night’s raindrops.

Ponder whether tiarella ‘Mystic Mint’ is attractive or just another “new and improved” cultivar that looks diseased.

Stuff the empty spaces of a rock wall with club moss.

Plant some spent lily stalks next to a purple bench on a scrubby hillside.

Take some bronze spray paint

and gild the lilies.

  1. What a beautiful leaf on your Hellebore Hot Flash, and red stems too, almost doesn’t need a flower! Love your gilded lilies, nice touch of decadence!! Hope you weren’t waiting too long for your mulch, goodness knows what else you would have got up to!

  2. How nice to be outside in January puttering in your new (warmer, balmier) garden. And to have gilded lilies!

  3. I guess I need several of those new hellebores although I seem to have enough ‘Hot Flashes’ here. I know you are missing the cold New England weather. I hear the sadness in your tone. LOL

  4. Love your gilded lilies:) I’m not too fond of hot flashes, but I think I’ll have to check into this hellebore with its interesting foliage. You certainly made the most of your wait, Cyndy.

  5. Love the hellebore, thoroughly dislike ‘Mystic Mint’, and you certainly give the lie to the adage about gilding the lily. Who knew waiting for the mulch truck could be so creative!
